DMM – The Evolution of the Universe
Deutsches Museum München / Munich Museum of Science and Technology, Cosmology section – Evolution of the Universe
electricsoup had the honour of providing concept and design of all interactive applications in the permanent exhibition as well as the development and production of the interactive applications.
The exhibition „Evolution of the Universe“ is an invitation to a journey that begins with the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago and ends with a glimpse at the future of the universe. En route you will learn how space, time, matter and the major structures in space were formed. An excursion into today’s universe describes the life cycle of stars, the structure and development of galaxies and the role played by black holes.
At the centre of the room is the Universe Cinema, a space where visitors can sit or lie to watch a 10-minute video projection that presents the history of the development of outer space.
Hands-on experiments include demonstrations of the importance of dark matter and how oxygen, iron and gold came to exist on Earth.
Within an area of 100 square metres the exhibition ties together knowledge from the fields of astronomy and cosmology as well as astrophysics, nuclear physics and particle physics to present the history of the universe from various perspectives.
„The Evolution of the Universe“ is a joint project carried out by five research institutions in cooperation with the Deutsches Museum:
- Exzellenz Cluster Origin and Structure of the Universe of the Technische Universität München (TUM) and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU)
- European Southern Observatory (ESO)
- Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik (MPA)
- Max-Planck-Institut für Extraterrestrische Physik (MPE)
- Max-Planck-Institut für Physik (MPP)
